The lack of self-control exhibited by Mr. Koon is his own character flaw, an no amount of "quality representation" can gloss over that fact. The only reason for Mr. Koon's life to be hanging in the balance, as you put it, is that he chose to let his ego and his emotions take control of him, and he chose to remedy this by taking 3 lives. He made a choice, with or without drugs/alcohol, he made a choice. He went over to the Guidry home with a purpose. If it was just to talk, he would not have taken the gun. There is no question of his guilt, only the argument over his punishment. There is NO excuse for his actions, nor do I believe that there is any reason to NOT give him the death penalty for them.....even if he is my kin.
